The university was first founded under the name of Fresno State Normal School, in 1911, having Charles Lourie McLane as president. In 1956, Fresno State College campus was moved on the present site. The college began to function as a university in 1961, and in 1972, California State University was adopted as the official name.
Today, Cal State Fresno has an enrollment of more than 20 000 students, offering 32 nationally accredited programs and departments, and consisting in 8 colleges, including Jordan College of Agricultural Sciences and Technology, Craig School of Business, Lyles College of Engineering (ABET accredited) and Technology Services, Arts & Humanities.
